According to KIPO, in the second quarter 2010,

Increase both applications and registrations of Intellectual Property Right

The number of both Patent applications and registrations in the second quarter this year appears to increase compared with the same period last year. 

According to “Intellectual Property Rights Trend of the second quarter 2010” KIPO announced on July 26^th, the number of the applications of Intellectual Property Rights in the second quarter this year is 92,413 which have increased by 3.3 % compared with corresponding period last year.

In terms of type of rights, patents (41,078) and trademarks (33,008) increase by 6.2% and 7.6% respectively while utility models (3,627) and designs (14,700) decrease by 23.4% and 4.2% respectively.

Classified by nationality, local residents (77,501) increase by 3.3 % and foreigners (14,912) increase by 3.5% compared with corresponding period last year.

Classified by main agents for the study, universities, public research institutes, large companies increase by 15.4%, 14.5 % and 7.8% respectively while medium and small companies and foreign corporation decrease by each17.8% and 22.7%.

Regarding the registration, the number of registrations is 38,784 which increase by 3.8% compared with corresponding period last year. In terms of type of rights, patents (16,262) and designs (8,318) increase by 15.1% and 5.8% respectively while utility models (976) and trademarks (13,228) decrease by each 23.4% and 4.2%. Classified by nationality, local residents (31,383) increase by 8.7 % while foreigners (7,401) decrease by 12.7%.

Classified by main agents for the study, public research institutes and large companies increase by 19.3% and 0.8% while large and the medium and small companies decrease by 3.5% with 9242 cases.

The number of request for examinations is 39, 203 which increase by 5.8%, on the other hand, the number of request for trial is 3, 559, decreasing by 14.4%.
